ThisEra Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 17, 2026 Updated: September 17, 2026 Support: eras@thisera.app

A. The era shelf on this iPhone

ThisEra is a free Education study app for people who already have a United States history chapter open. The home shelf lists built-in eras of American development. You claim a stretch, optionally ask ThisEra to draft a process card for that era, review and accept the card, keep corrections and outcomes on that stretch, and return later to the same local shelf. Era rows, process cards, outcomes, corrections, preferences, and any chapter stills you attach live in on-device SwiftData (and related app files). There is no ThisEra account and no account-backed cloud sync of your shelf.

B. What may sit on the shelf

While you study, this iPhone may hold:

  • Seeded era catalog fields (title, span, process prompts) plus your claim state
  • Process cards you accepted, with beats and rationale text
  • Outcome, correction, and preference records tied to an era
  • Optional chapter-page stills you capture or pick, only after you confirm the still is not a face photo
  • Spoken Ask-this-era / figure-talk text after speech recognition turns an utterance into editable words (raw audio buffers are discarded and are not uploaded as audio files)
  • Process-mark images you choose to save back into Photos

This reviewed tip has no StoreKit purchase ledger and no consumable Ink Marks balance. Removing the app deletes that on-device shelf history from ThisEra. We cannot restore wiped local study data from our servers.

C. Permissions — only when a control asks

  • Camera — capture a chapter page you choose to attach to an era reading
  • Photo Library (read) — pick an existing chapter page for the same attach path
  • Photo Library (add) — save process marks when you ask ThisEra to write them into Photos
  • Microphone — capture a spoken question while Ask-this-era or figure talk is listening
  • Speech recognition — Apple's Speech framework converts that utterance into text; ThisEra does not set requiresOnDeviceRecognition, so recognition may use Apple's on-device or cloud path depending on the device

ThisEra does not request App Tracking Transparency on this tip and does not ship NSUserTrackingUsageDescription in Info.plist. Deny camera, photos, mic, or speech and you can still browse the built-in shelf and type questions without attaching a still.

D. Purchases

Reviewed Sources ship ThisEra free: no StoreKit framework, no consumable Ink Marks, no subscription, and no Restore Purchases control. Era looks, process-card drafts, and figure talk are not paywalled on this tip. Local disclosure in the app states that looks and questions on an era do not require a purchase.

E. Tracking and attribution

PrivacyInfo sets tracking off (NSPrivacyTracking false), lists no tracking domains, and declares User Content only for app functionality (not linked, not used for tracking), plus the UserDefaults accessed-API reason (CA92.1). Reviewed product Sources do not import App Tracking Transparency, Adjust, AdSupport, or another attribution SDK, and they do not show an ATT prompt.

F. Optional reading service (DeepSeek)

era.look and figure talk that need the nested reading service leave this device only after the Consent Folio. Let ThisEra read grants consent for that era; Keep the shelf only leaves the full local shelf intact and does not pack a look.

When allowed for a turn, ThisEra may send only that turn's allowlisted pack, for example:

  • Era name, span, and process fields, plus seated card / recent outcome / preference / correction context the feature needs
  • Your typed or spoken question text
  • Optional JPEG pixels of a chapter still you attached — only after userConfirmedNoFace; the UI states ThisEra does not collect face data; stills over the local size guard are refused

Contacts, precise location, HealthKit data, advertising identifiers, and analytics SDKs are not packed into those requests. Traffic goes to DeepSeek at api.deepseek.com with model deepseek-v4-flash-vision-exp. DeepSeek's policy: https://cdn.deepseek.com/policies/en-US/deepseek-privacy-policy.html

G. Other network use

Besides optional DeepSeek after consent, ThisEra may fetch its published Privacy Policy, Terms, and Support pages over HTTPS when you open them from Settings. There is no ThisEra login, no StoreKit product loading, no analytics SDK, no ad network, and no MiniMax or other generative audio/image vendor on this tip. The built-in shelf remains readable offline.

H. Study boundary

ThisEra is an Education process-card aid for adults studying United States history chapters they already have. Process cards are study material, not academic grading, civic advocacy, current-politics feeds, exam-score prediction, or medical advice. ThisEra is not a Kids Category experience.
